FANS GET A NEW TRACK COLOR AND MAYBE RECORD-BREAKING TIMES AT PARIS OLYMPICS
Fans attending the Olympics in Paris this summer will witness a unique sight on the track as athletes aim to break records on a purple surface, a departure from the more traditional red-brick clay color typically seen. This marks the first time an Olympic track will feature the color purple. The pieces of vulcanized rubber track, manufactured at a factory in northern Italy, are being meticulously laid down at the Stade de France, the national stadium hosting track events.
The process of laying the track resembles an event in itself, with workers getting down on their hands and knees, donning hard hats, and carefully unfurling each strip before securing it in place with nails. Over 1,000 rolls of track will be used, requiring approximately one month's worth of work and a total of 2,800 pots of glue. In a nod to the previous Olympics, where three world records and 12 Olympic marks were achieved on the red-brick track in Tokyo three years ago, anticipation is building for the potential for new records to be set on the unique purple surface in Paris.
