San Francisco school board members are scheduled to sign off on the recent labor deal with teachers Tuesday. Last month's deal ended a nearly week-long strike between the San Francisco Unified School District and educators. District leaders agreed to dip into a rainy-day fund to help cover the added costs.
They also stress they're still weighing possible layoffs due to a massive budget shortfall. Teachers ratified the deal with more than 90% approval. The district is proposing adding five days of class back to the school calendar that were missed due to the strike, meaning the last day of school would be extended to June 10th. The school board has yet to sign off on that plan.
