Scrutiny in Sacramento over California’s stalled Next Generation 9-1-1 system continued Tuesday, with lawmakers from the Assembly Committee on Emergency Management grilling the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and the vendors chosen to build the new emergency call network about the project’s future and past failures.

The committee, chaired by Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom, pressed for answers about project delays, whether the current 911 system is safe, and a new Cal OES plan to move the Next Gen 911 project forward. Some legislators questioned whether Cal OES was equipped to lead a complicated technological project, citing a history of past failures state agencies have had with such endeavors.
