The 1,506 km Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) will be fully operational by December 2025, marking the completion of two DFCs in the country, which were planned for faster and seamless movement of bulk cargo by rail.

“The 96.4% of the Eastern and Western DFCs is complete and we currently operate around 240 trains daily on our network. The last leg of the project in Maharashtra — from Vaitarna to JNPT — will be complete by December 2025. The current physical progress is around 50%,” said Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) managing director R K Jain.
