On Friday, a panel of advisors to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) declined to recommend the COVID-19 vaccine for all Americans across the board. Instead, the panel advised a more individualized approach, recommending that people: Consult with their healthcare provider and make a personal decision about getting the updated COVID-19 shot.
The decision comes amid slowing uptake of COVID-19 vaccines and waning public concern, especially as most people have some level of immunity through prior infection or vaccination. Updated COVID-19 vaccines are still expected to be available this fall, targeting newer variants.
