The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to appoint Kenneth Binder as the county's next sheriff, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the sheriff's office after more than a year of scandals that culminated in the ouster of former sheriff Christina Corpus. San Francisco's District 4 Supervisor Beya Alcaraz resigned after being appointed by Mayor Daniel Lurie seven days ago, officials said. Alcaraz announced her resignation as the Sunset supervisor Thursday with a statement that reads in part, "I believe that my community deserves someone who will work 24/7 to advocate for us.
