A man who was shot while riding in a car near downtown San Jose early Sunday morning later died, police said Monday. Two other men injured in the shooting are expected to survive. The shooting happened at about 2:19 a.m. Sunday in the area of South First and East Reed streets, according to police.

Investigators determined the men were driving in the area when an unknown suspect or suspects fired multiple gunshots into their vehicle, police said. Responding officers found all three men suffering from gunshot wounds. One man died at the hospital, police said. The other two men also were taken to the hospital, where their injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.\
