HILLARY CLINTON WINS NEVADA

In the first solid win of the Democratic Presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton won the Nevada caucuses by a vote of 52% to Bernie Sanders’ 47%. The former Secretary of State won with a strong showing from women, seniors and African Americans. However, she lost with independents and the youth, both of whom still show support for Sanders. Despite winning the African American vote in a big way, Clinton struggled with the Latino vote, a demographic which she carried easily in the last election. As much as this result was expected, it by no means determines the rest of the trail. Louis DeSipio, director of the Center of Democracy at UC Irvine, says that the party is looking for an outsider, going on to assert that this is going to be a long race.

JEB BUSH SUSPENDS PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

After floundering for months on the 2016 campaign trail, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush dropped out of the presidential race. He announced his candidacy in June 2015, emerging as the favorite among a mix of other candidates. His media presence left room for improvement, but he shined in his town halls. Voters came away from forums with Bush and were pleasantly surprised at his knowledge and presence. However, he faced one major obstacle on his way to the Republican nomination: Donald Trump. The businessman from New York took aim at Bush from the very first day, and he hit his target. Virtually every Republican debate saw at least one fight between Donald Trump and Jeb Bush. As a result, Jeb Bush announced Saturday that he would be suspending his campaign.

UBER DRIVER KILLS 6 IN KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN

Jason Brian Dalton, a driver-partner with Uber, is suspected to have killed 6 people and injured 2 more on Saturday in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Uber chief security officer, Joe Sullivan, said that Dalton had passed a full security check, adding that Uber would be assisting the police in any way possible. Police reports indicate that the rampage lasted up to 6 hours, with the first shooting taking place at 6 PM. The next one took place four hours later, at a Kia dealership. The last one happened at a Cracker Barrel restaurant. Police arrested Dalton at 12:30 AM, ending Kalamazoo’s nightmare.

FANS AND STARS BACK KESHA

Singer Kesha has been embroiled in a lawsuit in which she accused her producer, Dr. Luke, of sexually and mentally assaulting her. Since then, her career has been stalled, as she doesn’t want to make music with her alleged rapist. As such, her attorney, Mark Geragos, filed an injunction that would allow Kesha to make music with producers other than Dr. Luke. The court rejected the injunction, saying it represents a breach of a contract in which Kesha is required to make six albums with Kemosabe Records, Dr. Luke’s studio. Outside the court hall, fans stand with signs reading “Free Kesha”, and singers on Twitter have expressed support for their fellow artist.
