CRICKET UPDATE ICC T20 WORLD CUP 2016

AUSTALIA vs PAKISTAN: AUSTRALIA CONDEMNED PAKISTAN TO AN EARLY EXIT FROM WORLD T20

Austalia have beaten Pakistan in the T20 World Cup in Mohali to set up a virtual quarterfinal clash with India. Australia won the toss, elected to bat and set up a huge total of 193 for four wickets. Captain Steven Smith top scored with an unbeaten 61 off 43 deliveries while Shane Watson played a rollicking innings, smashing an unbeaten 44 of a mere 21 balls, with three sixes and four fours. Mohammed Sami suffered the most, hemorrhaging 53 runs off his allocated four overs. In reply, Pakistan batted well but never seriously threatened Australia, and there were some middling contributions from their middle order but they had too much to do and fell apart 21 runs short, and got knocked out of the tournament.

In the other match, West Indies managed to beat South Africa in Nagpur after some late hiccups and have advanced to the semifinals in Group A. South Africa had a horrendous start to their innings losing wickets regularly and were 47 for 5 at one stage before Quinton de Kock and Wiese staged a minor recovery. But a total of 122 is never going to be enough against any team, and despite some late flurry of wickets West Indies through some vital contributions from Marlon Samuels and Craig Brathwaite settled the issue. Imran Tahir bowled magnificently to take two wickets for just 13 runs off his four overs but it is almost certain that South Africa are headed to the exit door after their repeated failures in both versions of limited overs cricket World Cups.
