UNDERSTANDING BREXIT
What is Brexit? The word comes from the marriage of Britain and exit. It represents the desire of a portion of the British population to exit the European Union. Should the referendum on Thursday decide that Britain leave the European Union, it would open up a world of economic and military uncertainty. The UK is the United States’ 7th largest trading partner. A severance from the EU would create instability. The European Union is founded off of the idea that if countries are economically linked, they won’t be as prone to fighting as they were after World War I. Despite the sense of that proposition, the way countries react to world events, financial matters, and currency, among other things. Hence, the desire of Britain to leave.
