In a bid to draw attention to their long-standing demands, anganwadi workers, helpers, and ASHA workers are gearing up to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Nashik on January 12. While Anganwadi workers across Maharashtra have been on a strike since December 4, ASHA workers too have threatened to go on an indefinite strike starting January 12 over wages.

Their primary request revolves around a salary hike, an issue that has remained unaddressed by the central government for the past five years, said Maharashtra State Anganwadi Staff Action Committee. The Anganwadi workers have been on strike for the past 37 days, demanding recognition as government employees, an increase in salary linked to the inflation index, monthly pension, gratuity, and adjustments for rising rent and food prices. Despite the extended strike, the government is yet to reach a resolution.
