Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers made an impact in his first MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park. The 28-year-old started behind the dish for the American League and went 1-for-1 with a walk, a single and a run scored in their 4-0 win over the National League.
Langeliers beat out Detroit Tigers backstop Dillon Dingler for the All-Star start, and his A's teammate Nick Kurtz was slated to start as well at first base with Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. declining to participate. Kurtz was sidelined by a thumb injury, though, making Langeliers the only representative for the Green and Gold. In addition to his offensive success, the A's catcher also provided a unique highlight on defense during the game while he and Blue Jays ace Dylan Cease were mic'd up. Their in-game communication was on display for the world to see, and it led to Cease striking out the side.
