The government has achieved 100% acquisition of land for the country’s first high-speed rail (bullet train) project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, over five-and-a-half years after the first notification for acquiring land for this project was issued, indicating how difficult and time-taking the process is for any infrastructure works.
Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday announced that the national transporter has acquired 1,389.5 hectares of land for the flagship project in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. He added that the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) has completed pier casting for 268.5 km out of the total 508.2 km corridor, and it has completed girder launching for 120 km. Vaishnaw has said the first trial run of the bullet train in Gurjarat will start in August 2026.
