The Democratic Republic of Congo added the rebel-held Rubaya coltan mine, one of the world's richest tantalum deposits, to a shortlist of strategic assets it is offering to the U.S. under a minerals cooperation framework.
A senior Congolese official and a U.S. diplomat confirmed the inclusion of Rubaya on the shortlist presented to a DRC-U.S. meeting in Washington on February 5 to advance their strategic minerals partnership agreed in December.
