CRASH AND GAS LEAK IN SUNNYVALE TRIGGERS EVACUATIONS

Several homes in Sunnyvale were evacuated Monday morning after a vehicle crashed into a residence, causing a natural gas line leak, authorities said. The crash and gas leak happened in the area of 700 Winstead Court, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) said at about 9:45 a.m.

In an update just before 11 a.m., DPS said the leak had been "mitigated" by PG&E. DPS initially said a school in the area was being evacuated but later clarified to say it was placed under a shelter-in-place order.
