The most memorable moment of this Warriors’ preseason occurred before the first tipoff, before Kristaps Porziņģis made an appearance and before Dub Nation confirmed its love affair with Yaxel Lendeborg. On September 28, a couple hours before they took flight to Hawaii for training camp, Stephen Curry, dropped the mic and walked off the podium. His final word on Media Day: “Damn!”

That was Curry’s emphatic reply to the common narrative that Golden State, due to age and infirmity, can’t cobble its way to the 2027 NBA playoffs. Really? Had he not done enough during his transcendent career to quiet the legion of doubters? Curry felt the familiar sting of disrespect. He probably wouldn’t bother suiting up if he couldn’t visualize the Warriors, the platinum standard within the NBA not so long ago, not finishing among the top eight in the Western Conference – and top 16 in the league.
