MAYOR LONDON BREED ANNOUNCES SAN FRANCISCO ZOO TO RECEIVE GIANT PANDAS

The San Francisco Zoo is preparing to welcome a pair of giant pandas following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Mayor London Breed and the China Wildlife Conservation Association. Although the announcement did not provide a specific timeline for the pandas' arrival, the mayor's office stated that it would depend on the completion of a suitable panda enclosure. Planning has already commenced, with engineers from the Beijing Zoo collaborating with local zoo engineers during a recent visit to the city.

While the San Francisco Zoo previously hosted pandas on a temporary basis during a global tour in the 1980s, this latest agreement signifies the first official lease agreement for the rare animals to take up residence at the zoo. Mayor Breed emphasized the significance of this development, stating that the presence of pandas at the zoo would further strengthen the cultural connection between San Francisco and China, honoring the city's rich Chinese and Asian Pacific Islander heritage.
