San Jose has installed new speed cameras throughout the city to keep streets safer. Over the weekend, crews put up 33 automated speed enforcement cameras as part of a five-year pilot program authorized under a new California state law.

San Jose has recorded 41 traffic deaths this year. City leaders hope the cameras will help save lives. The program has already launched in Oakland and San Francisco. In San Francisco, the city says dangerous speeding dropped by 84% at camera locations during the first 18 months of enforcement. Numbers also show that San Francisco had roughly 40,000 fewer cases of speeding every day across camera locations.
