SANTA CLARA SETS MONDAY DEADLINE FOR ANNUAL HALLOWEEN HOME-DECORATING CONTEST

Santa Clara residents have until 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, to enter the city's annual Halloween Home Decorating Contest, hosted by the Cultural Commission, the city said. The contest is open to city residents and limited to residential properties. Judging will focus on exterior decorations, with entries evaluated on visibility, interactivity, creativity, overall theme and a brief explanation of the decorations, limited to four sentences.
Eight winners will be selected: one for the Most Innovative Award, one for Best Group and six district winners, with one from each of the city's six City Council districts, according to the city. Select Cultural Commission members will judge entries in person by visiting contestants' homes.Previous winners are not eligible to win the same award two years in a row, although they may qualify for a different category, city officials said.
