SUPERSTAR MACKLIN CELEBRINI NAMED YOUNGEST CAPTAIN IN SHARKS FRANCHISE HISTORY
As if Macklin Celebrini's offseason couldn't get any better, the 20-year-old was named Sharks captain on Friday. The Sharks announced early on Friday morning plans to hold a press conference at 12:30 p.m. PT at Sharks Ice in San Jose with Celebrini, general manager Mike Grier and coach Ryan Warsofsky in attendance. Then, just after 11 a.m. PT, the Sharks broke the news by having former team captain Joe Thornton present Celebrini with his jersey adorned with the "C."
Sharks icon Patrick Marleau was the previous youngest captain, attaining the honor at 24 years old in 2003. Celebrini is the 14th captain and 11th full-time captain in Sharks history, and the first since Logan Couture held the title during the 2024-25 NHL season. San Jose didn't have a captain last year. But Celebrini proved during the 2025-26 season that he was worthy of the role, even before he turned 21.
