The Trump administration on Wednesday will defend its sweeping directive to pause federal loans, grants and other financial assistance in court for a second straight day, after a judge late on Tuesday temporarily halted the measure.
Chief U.S. District Judge John McConnell in Providence, Rhode Island will weigh a bid by 22 mostly Democratic-led states and the District of Columbia for a temporary restraining order at a 3 p.m. ET (2000 GMT) hearing. The states argue the freeze could have a devastating effect on their budgets.
