UK AND GERMANY DEEPEN DEFENCE TIES, UNITED IN SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have pledged to strengthen defense cooperation between their countries, emphasizing the importance of European unity in supporting Ukraine against Russia. Sunak praised the closer ties between Britain and Germany, particularly following his recent announcement of plans to increase defense spending to 2.5% of GDP annually by 2030. He framed this commitment as a challenge to other European nations to similarly prioritize defense investment.
In addition to defense cooperation, the leaders discussed plans to develop Remote-Controlled Howitzer 155mm Wheeled Artillery Systems (RCH 155) and explored collaboration on energy projects, including potential German investment in the sector. These initiatives reflect a broader effort to deepen bilateral ties and address shared security and strategic concerns.
