UNIPER WILL HELP 'GREEN' DEUTSCHE BAHN'S ELECTRICITY SUPPLY

German railway operator Deutsche Bahn and utility Uniper announced on Wednesday that they have finalized a five-year hydroelectric power supply contract starting from 2028. This agreement aims to assist both partners in achieving their emissions targets by the end of the decade.

The power purchase agreement (PPA) involves the supply of 88 gigawatt hours (GWh) of power annually to Deutsche Bahn from four run-of-river plants located in Sweden. Deutsche Bahn, Germany's single biggest power consumer, seeks to reach a target of 80% of renewably sourced electricity by 2030. It currently sources 68% of its energy needs from renewable sources, compared to 55% in Germany as a whole last year. The rail operator also has supply contracts with Uniper peer RWE and others.
