JPMORGAN BETS BIG ON DETROIT


“This is probably one of the biggest disasters”. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said this about the lack of public education in one of America’s poorest cities. At an entrepreneurial event in Detroit, Dimon cited the 5 million open jobs for the 8 million unemployed Americans as a disgrace. He argues that the lack of education that people get limits them, and more often than not, renders them unemployed. As a result, Dimon and his bank made a $100 million contribution to Detroit and took a trip around the city, talking to small business owners and entrepreneurs to see the impact that his donation had had. He further contributed $4 million towards a program that would connect students to career services and help them get the jobs that they needed.Read more on the story here
