NIGHTMARE INITIATION IN AUSTRALIAN MILITARY

Colleges have policies against hazing because it tends to get out of control. Unfortunately, no such policies were in place in the Australian military at the time this nightmare initiation took place. The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse is hearing cases from as early as 1960, where men and women reported that they were raped and forced to rape other cadets as part of the initiation. Specifically, the commission is investigating the reports of rape coming out of the training center dubbed HMAS Leeuwin. 111 victims have come forward claiming abuse, some from when they were as young as 15. One man recalled being snatched from his bed, forced to rape other soldiers, then being raped himself. In a chilling recollection, he remembers asserting that it was better to get it over and done. When reported to higher authorities, the victims were often pushed aside.
