BAY AREA SEES SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT OVERALL IN AIR QUALITY

The American Lung Association's annual State of the Air report provides a comprehensive overview of air quality across different regions, and its findings for the San Jose–San Francisco–Oakland area reflect both areas of concern and signs of improvement. The region's air quality received mixed grades, with some slight improvements overall. However, it still faces challenges, particularly in terms of pollution levels of daily particulate matter, annual particulate matter, and ozone.

Specifically, this ranks the San Jose–San Francisco–Oakland region as the seventh most polluted by daily particulate matter, indicating elevated levels of fine particles in the air on a daily basis. Additionally, it ranks fifth for annual particulate matter pollution, suggesting higher-than-desirable levels of fine particles over the course of the year. Ozone pollution, another significant concern, ranks the region as the 13th most polluted.
