Reunited and it feels so good. Former 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel is returning to San Francisco on a one-year contract worth up to $7 million, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday, citing sources.
After six seasons with the 49ers, Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders in March 2025 after he requested to be moved. During the 2026 NFL season with Washington, Samuel caught 72 passes for 727 yards with five receiving touchdowns, plus 17 carries for 75 yards and a rushing score across 16 games before entering free agency. San Francisco selected Samuel with the No. 36 overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, and he went on to earn a reputation as one of the league's most versatile weapons, coining the term “wide-back” for a game that blended wideout routes with running back production. Across his first six years with the 49ers, which included an All-Pro 2021 season, Samuel recorded 334 receptions for 4,792 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns through the air while doubling as a threat on the ground, recording 202 rushing attempts for 1,143 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns.
