LOS GATOS HIGH COMMUNITY REMEMBERS AND HONORS FLIGHT 93 HEROES

On Friday, Los Gatos High remembered two graduates who were on United Airlines Flight 93, the flight bound for San Francisco that crashed into an open field in Pennsylvania. Todd Beamer and Mark Bingham were among the passengers who came up with a plan to storm the cockpit and overtake the hijackers. A military flyover before the Los Gatos High School football game honored Beamer, Bingham and those who lost their lives on 9/11.
Todd Beamer was a baseball player, and Mark Bingham was a star on the rugby pitch. Both were just a class apart. More than a decade after graduation they found themselves on the very same flight that fateful day, United Airlines Flight 93- Newark to SFO. Together they hatched a plan with other passengers to retake the plane from the hijackers. Beamer is credited with the rallying cry “let’s roll” as he and Bingham and the others made the ultimate sacrifice. Congressman Sam Liccardo spoke before the game tonight along with Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School Superintendent Heath Rocha, who said 9/11 isn’t just part of the nation’s story but also a part of Los Gatos High School's story.
