Lucknow is ranked at the top followed by Indore and Jabalpur as second and third, respectively, in the list of million-plus population cities in the ‘Swachh Vayu Survekshan’ (clean air survey) 2026 for implementing air pollution mitigation measures under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
The survey report, released by the Union environment ministry on the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies on Monday, shows that though the levels of the average PM10 (particulate matter 10), a key pollutant, continue to be high in these cities compared to others in 2025-26, they still figured as the top three cities in the list due to scoring high on other parameters whose weightage is higher than the reduction in PM10 concentration level.
