MAN RESCUED FROM INSIDE GARBAGE TRUCK IN SAN FRANCISCO

A man was rescued from inside a garbage truck early Wednesday morning in San Francisco, according to the fire department. Firefighters were dispatched around 4:11 a.m. to the 100 block of Mason Street following a report of a person trapped inside a Recology garbage truck. According to SFFD, the truck's driver had been flagged down and told that someone could be heard yelling from inside the garbage area of the truck. About 25 firefighters responded to the scene, and the rescue operation took roughly two hours, according to fire officials.

The man was eventually rescued and was conscious, breathing and talking before being taken to a hospital, according to a San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known. A firefighter also suffered a laceration to the hand during the rescue and was taken to a hospital for stitches, fire officials added.

A fire official said he is believed to have entered a dumpster looking for food before he got trapped in the garbage truck.
