SIERRA NEVADA RECORDS SNOWIEST DAY OF THE SEASON FROM BRIEF BUT POTENT CALIFORNIA STORM

The Bay Area experienced a weekend spring storm that brought heavy rain and snow to Northern California, setting a single-day snowfall record for the season in the Sierra Nevada on Sunday. Although the wet weather system had mostly moved out of the state by Sunday morning, officials warned of slick roads due to the significant snowfall accumulation. In some areas of the Sierra, around two feet of snow fell, resulting in treacherous driving conditions and the closure of several highways near Lake Tahoe, including Interstate 80 over the Donner Summit. The 26.4 inches of snowfall on Sunday surpassed the previous second snowiest day of the season, March 3rd, by 2.6 inches.

Additionally, flood advisories were issued for parts of the Bay Area, where up to an inch of rain fell, accompanied by temperatures dipping into the low 40s. Despite the challenges posed by the storm, communities across the region remained resilient and prepared to navigate the aftermath.
