Firefighters made progress overnight on the Woodside Fire along the Sonoma County coast, increasing containment to 30 percent Friday morning as crews continued battling the wildfire near state Highway 1. A Spare the Air alert issued in the Bay Area due to the blaze was extended through Saturday, authorities announced Friday.

The fire has burned about 142 acres, according to the latest update from Cal Fire. Overnight, favorable weather conditions allowed firefighters to strengthen containment, the agency said. The wildfire started about 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the 24000 block of Highway 1 near Timber Cove. There have been no reports of injuries, as of 7 a.m. Friday.
