The 49ers are adding some much-needed depth off the edge. San Francisco is signing veteran edge rusher Ogbo Okoronkwo to a contract, NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan confirmed after ESPN's Jeremy Fowler first reported the news.

The 31-year-old Okoronkwo, originally a fifth-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2018 NFL Draft, has recorded 17 career sacks, four forced fumbles, 132 combined tackles, 31 tackles for loss and 38 quarterback hits across seven seasons (81 games) with the Rams, Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, and most recently, the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025. San Francisco, which has dealt with numerous injuries to its defensive line already in training camp, is light off the edge after injuries to depth pieces Mikail Kamara, Keion White and Cameron Sample. Okoronkwo, who played one season under current 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris in 2021 with Los Angeles, could be a potential solution.
