TIMBER FIRE IN BIG SUR GROWS TO 4,545 ACRES AMID TOUGH CONDITIONS

The Timber Fire near Big Sur continues to grow and had spread to 4,545 acres as of Friday morning while firefighters continue to battle the massive blaze amid tough conditions, according to Cal Fire. The wildfire remains 7% contained, Cal Fire said in an update around 6:35 a.m.

The fire has prompted evacuations and the closure of a stretch of state Highway 1 in Monterey County, from mile marker 45.1 near Big Sur Bakery to mile marker 37 at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park Vista Point. The fire has crossed Longwood Creek and reached Olmstead Mountain, according to authorities.
