49ERS SIGNING FORMER SECOND-ROUND PICK DANTE PETTIS AMID INJURIES
The 49ers need reinforcements, and they are reuniting with a familiar face. San Francisco is signing wide receiver Dante Pettis, their second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, to the practice squad pending a physical, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan on Tuesday. NFL insider Jordan Schultz was first to report news of the reunion.
Pettis heads to the practice squad as the 49ers deal with a slew of injuries to their wide receivers room, with Mike Evans as the latest. Evans currently is day-to-day with a ribs injury sustained in San Francisco's Week 3 win, joining Demarcus Robinson, De'Zhaun Stribling, Ricky Pearsall as notable injured wideouts. A workout earlier in the day must have gone well for Pettis, who was one of three familiar receivers to try out for the 49ers on Tuesday along with Brenden Rice, Jerry Rice's son, and Malik Turner, who played for the 49ers in 2022 and 2025. The 49ers also worked out a slew of other players, per NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
